Gone.
Just like that…gone.
And Alessio didn’t know what to do then. He didn’t move he hardly even breathed, staring at the place his friend had been. In the blink of an instant it was as if he never even was there, only a figment of his imagination. Could something so important really vanish out of your life in just that fast? Of course…of course, Alessio knew that happened, it was the story of his life but…
Was this all just a fever dream on a wishing star that’s fading away?
Numbly, he stared down at his hand that he’d reached for Nithel with, too stunned to process, feeling a sticky film of tears slid down to his chin. Untouchable, when he first arrived here that’s what he had believed about himself, that…
And Nithel had broken that wall and he just wasn’t the same person that came here. There was a part of him no one could reach through the scars and incessant terror. And that part of him…what was untouchable, his friend had touch it and somehow he’d drawn him out.
“Well, it seems we have lost another.” The dragon’s voice was certainly overwhelming with distress and not satisfaction. If Alessio hadn’t been in shock he might’ve snapped then and there, but he couldn’t even process his fury at Malvat. “However, I don’t intend to be meat for this place next. We should move.”
How had he changed so much so soon after so many years failing, just because of a friend?
“What door should we choose?” He wanted to scream at the dragon to just shut up if he couldn’t be anything but heartless. *And thank goodness he can’t read Malvat’s POV hoping Nithel fell in a pit of lava! Eesh, that would end badly!!*
“Alessio,” Mayra said, softly, but forcefully calling him back to the present. Couldn’t someone else come up with a plan or…He stared into her unique, mismatched eyes, sensing her struggle to hold her gaze, something that had been beaten so deeply into him to do that it conflicted with the instinct to avoid painfully. And she’d broken that urge to comfort him…
Then Mayra moved and touched his shoulder, lightly. His eyes dropped to her hand on his shoulder, still stunned by human contact. It felt so warm he wasn’t sure what to do with it and he touched her hand very gently for a second. Nithel would’ve wanted to care for her so much, just like he had Alessio.
Alessio looked up at her, wondering and feeling such a deep kinship to her. She did care, as much as she refused to for anyone else, it was still there and there was something beautiful and worth dying for in who she was. It was just hidden underneath all the pain and fear.
A small, grateful smile touched his lips as he promised himself he’d be there as long as it took for her to find her freedom.@millennium Lol can’t blame her for trying to ditch these idiots 😀 WELCOME BACK I LITERALLY SNORTED AT “EmilyRemixed” 🤭
