honestly, I totally get that about not knowing what you want to convey with your characters. I feel like what you’re going through is a sign that your characters and skills are growing, since real people often feel conflicted and confused about their own desires and beliefs! I think that Meira seems like a really interesting character – like maybe not a character you particularly like at first, but definitely a character that you’re rooting for and want to see change and grow as a person!
Aw, thats great to know😅 Thanks I‘m glad you think so!
That’s also so cool how your story incorporates aspects of your cultural identity! Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m under the impression that a lot of aspects of Irish culture are being lost (and not to get too political here, but I’m also aware that a lot of this is tied to Britain, correct?) I think that this is such a cool way of honoring that heritage!
Thanks that means a lot! It wad an opportunity I couldn’t resist because there are literally no mainstream books or films that focus specifically on Irish myth, so I decided to take on the task by writing a YA series 🙂
And yeah you’re not wrong, the Irish language is dying out, only small pockets of the population speak it fluently. Its to do with the education system, its just SO bad, we learn Irish for thirteen years and get nothing from it☹️ Thats really the main part. There’s also the rejection of our history by young people cause they’re not interested. For some reason, the subject made so boring in schools, which is criminal considering the rebels fought and died so Ireland could achieve independence. I also think it’s probably the rise of socialism amongst young people if u ask me🙄
Yeah Britain is to blame at the end of the day. I won’t go into the entire history, but basically they took over Ireland using colonising plantations, and since then the culture and language and religion of the native Irish was severely oppressed. Hence the Famine, hence immigration etc. There’s a reason English is our first language🙁
Also, that was an excellent analysis on AoT! I probably won’t watch it because of the violence, but it definitely seems to be a really deep and fascinating story. Thanks for the recommendation!
Yeah honestly im in a love/hate relationship with that show cause of how a certain character turns out😂 and violence isn’t nice at all, so i don’t blame you 🙂
