    Now we introduce them 🙂

Mayra reached the door at the end of the corridor. She listened to the voices coming from the other side, her hand raised over the door knob. Whatever was going to happen, whoever was in this room, she needed to be ready to prepare for the worst.

She pushed the door open. It swung aside slowly, and she silently stepped into the room.

“We can try to keep moving or we can rest here as long as someone keeps guard and we can take shifts there,” a male voice spoke up. “If anyone has any supplies or unusual skills, I would prefer for it to be common knowledge to everyone so we can prepare more adequately in advance.”

A group of people were in the room, standing near a bed. They surrounded a boy who was sitting up on it, as if he had just woken up. Her hand brushed against the knife at her side, ready to pull it out if necessary as she approached them, the shadows giving her cover. If there was one thing she was grateful for, it was her sneaking skills.

“Those of you who have just now appeared, what we have established thus far is no one knows where we are or what is happening,” a boy spoke up. “None of us appear to be from the same world and no one appears to be wholly sane either. Further there are no noteworthy consistencies or patterns here so nothing can be predicted. I would recommend establishing an equivocally ‘safe’ parameter before determining our best course of action.”

They glanced at each other, nodding in agreement.

She raised her eyes slightly, her gaze narrowing on the boy who had just spoken. He seemed to be about seventeen or so, like her, and had dark curly hair and olive skin. His expression was filled with determination. But there was something else about him, something that she couldn’t put her finger on. His eyes glanced past her as he looked around the room. His eyes. Now she knew what it was that disturbed her about them. There was a darkness, a sadness hiding deep within them.

He turned toward the boy on the bed. Then he froze and twisted around slowly. His dark eyes landed on her and they immediately widened. He let out a sound of surprise, and took a slight step back.

    She had been spotted.

She didn’t move as one by one the group all turned towards her. They stared at her, shock and curiosity filling their gazes. She watched them silently through lowered eyes, her fists clenching.

They shifted amongst themselves, as if they weren’t sure what to make of her. She couldn’t see the others properly through her sheet of bangs, so she couldn’t really tell if they were all male.

Mayra stayed utterly still, watching them carefully. Waiting for them to speak. Or to attack.
