*hopes the quote thing will work*
Who’s Rupert’s mom?
She was a descendant of Kandake.
And what’s his backstory?
*starts at beginning* Rupert was born in England. At some point during his childhood (idk when exactly) both his parents were killed in a plane crash.
Anyways, after the deaths of his parents, Rupe was sent to the U. S. to live with his Norse godparents, Thor and his wife Liv. They sent him to Ashtown (which is either in Wisconsin or Michigan) to become an Acolyte when he was around eight.
The Smith siblings became Acolytes around the same time. Lawrence, the youngest of four (well, technically five) was around Rupert’s age, and the two were rivals at first, but eventually became friends. (regarding the two of them, Rupert once said, “In mood, I was a shark, and he was a dolphin.”)
At some point before the year was up, Harriet and Circe, along with Rupert’s elder brother, disappeared.
The two boys were ten or perhaps a little over (the book is unclear) when Lawrence’s own brother, Daniel, was killed (idk what the cause was), and the two grew closer.
Soon Lawrence was all who remained of his family — his sisters and brother were gone, and his parents died slowly of grief.
When they were young adults, Lawrence fell in love with a native princess called Cataan, and resolved to marry her, but while the Sages agreed, the Keepers would not sanction the union. When he married her anyway, he was expelled from the Order.
Ten years prior to the timeline place from whence I plucked Rupert for this story, he was searching the old rooms of Edwin Laughlin Phoenix. Hidden inside of the walls he found the mutilated and deformed bodies of seven children (Acolytes all). Among them was that of his brother. Two others were the bodies of Harriet and Circe Smith. (Phoenix is more or less a sorcerer, who combines the flesh of animals with that of men to “improve upon” humanity. These kids were left over from his earlier experiments. I know. Dark.)
Seven years after that, Rupert and Lawrence learned of the location of the Dragon’s Tooth, and attempted to race Phoenix to get it. Phoenix’s men got there first, and before long, the two were running for their lives. As they ran, Rupert was shot in the shoulder, and was knocked unconscious when he fell on the rocky ground. Lawrence carried him back to their boat. When Rupert revived, he found the boat in the process of sinking / being dashed to pieces, and slumped over the steering wheel was Lawrence’s lifeless body, shot multiple times in the back.
