Ivaylo, Bo’, Gryphon, and the king charged out of the dark city streets and into the battle. Ivaylo offered cover for the others with his lightsaber while Gryphon and Bo’ fired at any droids within sight. They quickly reached Jaina and Zeinli’s sides and joined their efforts.

“What are you doing here?” Zeinli asked.

“Our exit was cut off,” Ivaylo grunted. “There’s only one way out now, and that’s the front gate.”

Everyone braced themselves as a nearby explosion rocked the earth.

“Get the king out of here,” Zeinli said, recovering. “We’ll finish off these droids and then join you.”

“But what about the Padawans?” Jaina asked. “Solstice and Goane… Are we sure they got out all right?”

“We can’t afford to wait. We have to the king out of here as soon as possible,” Ivaylo said. “They can meet up with us at the ship.”

“They might need help,” Jaina said. Her face was unreadable underneath her Mandalorian helmet, but both Zeinli and Ivaylo sensed her unease. They exchanged looks, and then Zeinli placed a hand on Jaina’s shoulder.

“You know Goane. He’ll get himself and Solstice out of there unharmed, I’m sure.”

Jaina nodded hesitantly, and then returned to firing her energy bow.

Gryphon took the king’s arm and started toward the front gate.

Not three steps away from escape a band of uniformed wolf-people moved to block the exit. The traitorous governor stood at their head, a sinister fanged smile drawn across his face.
