Xavier checked his horse as his hunting party neared the thicket.  The hounds were growling and snarling at the underbrush in a vicious frenzy, more aggressive than Xavier had ever seen them.  When his party had first set out to hunt down the boar that had been terrorizing the farms surrounding Galmour he hadn’t expected the dogs to track it this far into the woods.

The young prince took a wary glance around.  The trees this far in the wood were strange, some bearing leaves of a queerly blue hue and others in bloom despite it being midwinter still.  Something was very fae about the area, and it made Xavier uneasy.

Many of his entourage were dismounting with their boar-spears and forming a tight circle around the thicket.  Xavier himself remained in the saddle as his shoulder had not yet healed from his time on the Carabas battlefront and he would not be much use with a spear.  Amrath, his cousin, pulled his horse alongside the prince’s.  “These be fairy trees if I ever saw any,” said the duke.

“They are indeed,” Xavier agreed.  Before more could be spoken the thicket rustled.
The dogs had woken the boar.
