Ivaylo turned and glanced behind him, to the passageway blocked by the mouth of the creature.

“Should we go back for him, General?” Bo’ asked as the two continued running down the tunnel. Ivaylo shook his head.

“Gryphon is resourceful. He’ll find his way back to us, eventually.”

Bo’ nodded and they slowed as they reached another intersection. The captain flicked on his helmet’s light and scanned the area. Everything seemed secure.

“Should we try contacting him?” Bo’ asked.

“We can’t risk them picking up the comm’s signal. We brought those only for emergencies.”

“I’d say this is an emergency,” Bo’ said softly.

Ivaylo stared at Bo’ for a moment and then shook his head.

The general reached down to flick on his holo-map, but stayed his hand.

“I have a theory,” he said, and jogged a distance down one of the branching tunnels. He looked over to Bo’. “Get close to the wall. And turn of your light.”

Without any further warning he flicked his holo-map on. Bo’ rushed to obey.

Then the ground shook.

One of the nasty creatures plunged toward Ivaylo from the facing tunnel. The general swiftly drew his blaster rifle and fired several shots at the creature. It shrieked and retracted from the way it had come.

Bo’ slowly moved to join Ivaylo, whose mouth was set in a grim line.

“Those monsters are attracted to electronic signals. No more technology for us.”
