Kalmar looked around as they explored the corridors. Tapestries hung on the walls, one displaying a man shooting a huge dragon as flames of a burning town leapt higher about them (1). Another showed a hawk above a rabbit. Oddly, both the rabbit and the hawk were wearing clothes (2). Yet another showed a man on a blue dragon fighting hideous creatures (3). As he walked, Kalmar’s mind turned to what had brought them here. He and Janner had been racing back to Castle Rysen, and before they had left (Nia (4) had asked them to run a recipe up to Kinnan, Elder Cadwick’s wife) had said she was going to practice her whistleharp. ‘What happened to us.’ He wondered. ‘And where in Aerwiar are we? Are we even in Aerwiar? Kalmar was startled out of his thoughts when he heard Janner ask “…How old are you?”
