What if we don’t actually see the death on-screen, so to speak? Sometimes the most emotionally impactful things are the ones left to the imagination. The scene could be about a protagonist (or antagonist) hearing or finding out about the death of a loved one and describing their reaction – maybe even with a flashback or memory scene thrown in. For instance, a scene about two friends who are going to have a get-together at a coffee shop in the city. Friend A is on time and frustrated that friend B is running late. They end up storming out of the shop in a huff, only to turn the corner and glimpse a crowd gathered around a hit-and-run scene. At first, they are going to turn away and ignore it, then they see something of B’s on the sidewalk/pavement. Something they know no-one else would have (maybe because it was a handmade/personalized gift from A?). For extra impact, A could be completely alone in the world except for B, who has really been very supportive and has become their light in the darkness the past few years.
