I’m loving all this discussion about women in fiction at the moment! To be honest, I think women in specifically Christian fiction get a very raw and cliched deal. Keeping female characters interesting and empowered without making them radical feminists has been a longstanding struggle of mine and I still haven’t really come to a solid decision on it.

Concerning the Bechdel test, I don’t decide the books I read or movies I watch based on it (some people do, I’ve heard. Most of my favourite books don’t pass it). But I did challenge myself to make sure every book I wrote passed it (short stories and such are harder though). My two main novels pass it easily, as in one the two POV characters are female and sisters, and my second has one POV female and one male but very little romance (and not between the two MCs) and a lot of female side characters.
