@tinuviel Oooooooh! What a turnaround from the normal “What are your favorite books?” questions! I like this.

For me, I think my favorite part of a book is when the characters (and me!) get a strong feel for the things they have lost and left behind through the process of their growth, and through the happenings of the plot. Best example would be the Lord of the Rings, of course. XD Andrew Peterson seems to do this quite well in The Wingfeather Chronicles as well.

Things are better at the end, but things are different. Things, people, parts of the characters – things have been lost and changed, and will never be the same. For some reason, that dynamic is just especially powerful to me.

On another level, I think one of the most important reasons that I love a book is because the author has managed to weave a very deep theme into the actual fabric of the story itself, instead of just dealing with the theme in a surface way. It’s the difference between coming up with a great plot and then deciding to add a theme to it because “Themes are important!”, and deciding to tackle a deep and powerful theme, and finding the best story that allows you to fully explore that.
