Well, after talking with an editor briefly, I might be changing the idea and focusing it a little more, but here’s what I have currently:

Estranged sisters Gia and Vera are both having money problems, though one lives in poverty and the other in a gilded floating city, and in order to gain the money they need, they have to dive for pearls in sea-serpent-infested waters. First, though, they have to get past Gia’s overprotective, fire-obsessed boyfriend and Vera’s fear of water.

It deals a lot with manipulation and abuse, as well as materialism, though that’s not as heavily focused on.
