The judge had this to say about our piece:

While the pink and white eraser does work for an ‘ordinary’ symbol, it loses a lot of impact because of the lack of story flow. The beginning of the story seems to be focused around a deadline for an essay, but by the end, it’s about the narrator’s friend dying. The emotion in the second half of the story is completely disconnected to the beginning, and it felt more like two totally different aspects jammed into one story.

It was this disconnect that stopped me from really experiencing the story. If you focused the whole story around the friend, and the emotions the narrator is struggling with, it could have been a lot more powerful.

Nice work though. I said above and I’ll say it again, I think this was a really strong state of mind piece packed with relatable content.
