This sounds like a neat prompt! The first “common” thing I thought of was an elderly patient’s hands. I was thinking about a very tender, emotional scene describing the hands of a character’s grandmother who’s teetering on the edge of life. Maybe have the character take focus on the paleness of her eyes, the emaciation of her body, but maybe most importantly, the frailness of her hands and the memories of everything those hands toiled for during the earlier years of the grandmother’s life and the character’s childhood.

Another idea that came to mind was a cat’s eyes. Lately, I’ve been following an Instagram account that often compares a cat’s eyes to ocean eyes. And speaking of seeing the beauty in the ordinary, something that might be interesting to write is how the cat  might view ordinary things in the big wide world. xD

The last idea that came to mind was something Violet-Evergarden-inspired. Maybe some type of pendant, brooch, or heirloom of some sort that is very precious to the character? (Not sure if those objects would be too cliché though.) Maybe it belonged to a loved one or was given to the character by a loved one just before the loved one’s death? This lady and her blog have been giving me inspiration to write a story of similar sorts:

    Chinese Food + Grief

    Watching Time

She’s a very young widow and she sees ordinary objects, especially her husband’s belongings, in a very unique, strong emotional light. Hopefully those articles will help us get the juices flowing! Here’s Sami White’s own blog if anyone would like more inspiration:
