@coggleton I like Mistborn. The next two books are considerably better than the first, IMO, and though I’ve not gotten around to reading the second trilogy, I think Allomancy is by far Sanderson’s best magic system.

Regarding Cadmen, it sounds like’s he’s struggling with Impatience, and risking it turning toward Resentment. The Lord is not slow in his promise as some count slowness, right? Even if Cadmen knows that in his head, it sounds like he needs to learn to feel it, too. Cadmen cannot change the hearts of others. All he can do is give opportunity for others to change, be steadfast, and provide a shining example (you know, that thing fantasy paladins are most literally known for) that others can aspire to.

This sounds, from what I understand, similar to Zalal’s corruption. He was too Impatient to wait for the glory the Lord had in store for him, and refused to take his punishment, grow, and wait on the Lord. His Impatience likewise turned to Resentment, and from Resentment to Rebellion.

Maybe God is in some way giving Cadmen the opportunity to discover the conspiracy as a form of mercy. Not wishing that Cadmen’s weakness in the same way as Zalal should be tested, God effectively says “All right, you wanted opportunity for change? Here it is. Prove  you’re worthy of what you think is a desire to do big things for me.”

I didn’t mind Raskolnikov’s insanity in general. It was specifically the little instances of “lolrandum XD XD” stuff he’d get into, prompting a long scene of “Why did you do that thing, are you mad? People are saying you’re mad. Oh, well I guess I did do that thing. I wonder if I should confess. No. Yes. A little space of rock on which to stand. Would a murderer do this? Yes, and because I’m saying it, that’s exactly why I’m not the murderer! He’s mad. Haha, I love this guy. He’s just feverish and needs to have some tea. And stop lying down. And why on earth are you acting like this are you trying to kill your poor mother with grief? It is strange that I hate my mother at this time.”

@evelyn Well thanks anyway =P Congrats on getting photography for your business! Which Beowulf translation are you reading? I was listening to a bit on the politics of Beowulf translation some months ago on NPR, and while I didn’t listen to the whole thing, it was pretty interesting.
