@coggleton Interesting. What extent of physical harm? That’s something I would need to think about. In our society today we see physical harm come about as a result of lies already- for example, consider how Iceland has reduced the amount of babies born with down syndrome through abortion (source: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/down-syndrome-iceland/). I find fascinating how in the article, one individual says:
…tells women who are wrestling with the decision or feelings of guilt: “This is your life — you have the right to choose how your life will look like.”There is a worldview there that says “Your life and comfort takes priorities over the life of another.” The article then ends on the following quote:
“We don’t look at abortion as a murder. We look at it as a thing that we ended. We ended a possible life that may have had a huge complication… preventing suffering for the child and for the family. And I think that is more right than seeing it as a murder — that’s so black and white. Life isn’t black and white. Life is grey.”What do we see there?
– An attempt to justify these actions by obscuring what’s going on- what exactly is this “thing that we ended”?
– Arrogance to play God and say “You know there’s a possible chance that this may cause complications down the road, so we’ll terminate a life just to prevent those complications.” What if they’re wrong? If so, they’ve just committed murder- yet why is that other possibility never considered? Furthermore even if the child does have complications, what gives them the right to end a life?
– Again, valuing one’s own comfort above that of another. They say that abortion in this case is “preventing suffering for the child and for the family”. Ah, so rather than risk the possibility of suffering for the family, we’ll guarantee suffering for an innocent child? So using that as an example, the extent of physical harm would be a case of seeing what happens when the aforementioned worldview is extrapolated into other areas of life and given time to develop in the public mindset.
