Wow, that was interesting! It reminds me of something I discovered lately–face blindness. I wonder if they’re closely related? Face-blindness seems to be the inability to immediately recognize or remember an individual person’s unique features, which is kind of similar to what is in the article is some ways.
I have partially photographic memory–if I focus on something for a moment, I can easily remember specific details, the general image, plus colors, smells, etc.(Before you ask, no, I cannot memorize entire pages/books this way. XD) So I’d say I probably have a very vivid mind’s eye, because of my memory functions and just the way my brain works in general–I’m very attuned to my surroundings at all times and like to observe things carefully so I can remember any important details later on. So in turn my dreams are almost video-game like(meaning I can literally replay them over and over again trying “beat” the dream, or alter whatever set events happen, usually with a lot of action involved[i had a dream that I was working for Robin Hood once when I was younger, hopping from rooftop to rooftop running from the cops]).
So yeah, I’d say I have a very vivid mind’s eye… but only when it comes to images or sequences. If you ask me to memorize a page in a visual form and not the actual words on the page, I can’t do it. I’m terrible with names, but I’m great with faces and scenes. Things like formulas go right out the other ear unless I use them often, but something like the specific details of a person’s dress and actions I can easily remember. (Which explains why I’m so bad at math. XD)
