That was a really interesting article! I’m pretty sure I don’t have aphantasia, but I find it hard to visualise people, especially my character. I rely heavily on actors and models to base my characters off, as I really just can’t imagine what they look like. I remember one time, with a main character, I always said she had blonde hair and white skin. But I still couldn’t imagine what she looked like, until I was watching a movie and suddenly realised that the lead actress (who is Vietnamese, so looks slightly different to how I’d been saying my MC looked :D) had a lot of the same mannerisms as my MC. And I’ve been able to visualise her ever since, because I have a model to base her off.

I have less trouble with settings, but even then, I often just conjure up places I’ve been, rather than anything new. I remember trying to write an Asian fantasy and utterly failing because of this, but I have no problem at all in my Australian fantasy, because all the settings are based on places I’ve spent a lot of time.

So I guess my problem isn’t so much visualising things, but visualising original things.

I’m really interested in everyone else’s answers!
