@taylorclogston Interesting! I’ve never seen the appeal to Fawkes (there I’ve said it O.o) but so many people geek out about it here, I’ve been thinking about finding a copy.
Hey, how is your local writing group coming along?
@ariella-newheart Congratulations on your writing progress! I’m still so excited for you about passing such a huge milestone!
What I read: Life of Pi, which was really good. Also Henry and the Chalk Dragon (a creative and cute kids’ chapter book I’ve wanted to read for a while…)
What I wrote: So I was participating in Camp NaNoWriMo with a goal of 50,000 words, but at 23,000 words last week, the story was falling apart, due to a lack of the unique creativity I was trying to go for, as well as a plot that was too complicated and yet had to end. I was going to throw it out the window, but my oldest brother was visiting for the week and we began talking about it. He thought it was brilliant but agreed with where it was falling short. He even gave some insight on the ending and just blew my mind.
…all that to say, I’m still basically throwing out the manuscript but have learned what went wrong and where. With such a complicated plot I should have prepared more. Now I’m going to write out some things I need to clarify, make some charts, and brainstorm different ways to tell the story. The third person narrative I was using was not working with the plot. Now I have ideas up my sleeves. Haha, yay!
It’s really neat… it’s the first story I’ve absolutely loved. And the first one with a plot I’m actually proud of. Pretty sad, huh? 😛
In the meantime, I’m planning to return to a short story that ideally I should finish next week.
Oh! And I finally finished my first complete sonnet! I’ve been trying for so many months now to puzzle one together, but it wasn’t until Easter that I succeeded. That was fun. (:
What I learned: See above. 😉
Other: End of this school year! Besides math I have to catch up on. 😛 Which means Driver’s Ed is next. O.o
