I don’t believe in being “realistic” by being descriptively gory, violent, or stuff like that. That very sort of “realism” is what’s been driving me away from reading new books and watching any new movies- they damage my sanity, turn me away, and anger me.
You know what those kinds of “realistic” stories lack? Hope and love. They focus so much on darkness that they drown out the good.
ESPECIALLY when writing Christian stories; that isn’t acceptable. Even in tragedy, the hand of God is still there- like how in WW2 concentration camps there were miracles that Corrie TenBoom writes of in The Hiding Place, or how Joseph being sold into Egypt turned out to be a major part of God’s plan in preserving the Israelites.
If you don’t give enough hope, you aren’t being realistic. End of story.
