Interestingly, I actually don’t find it that sad. Realizing that truth has pushed me to stop dwelling on the “good ole days” and appreciating life right now.
That is interesting, and definitely something I struggle with, myself.
I always have trouble writing poems for stories and then putting them in my story smoothly. How do you do that?
I usually turn the poems into songs or prophesies or legends that tell the history or culture of the world that I’m writing. 🙂 Sometimes they’re songs from a character’s childhood. I have a scene where a character is faced with death and reminisces about his upbringing. He remembers a song his mother sang to him when he was a child. I worked this poem (which is a creepy lullaby) into a chapter line by line, with multiple paragraphs of the story between each line. The poem ends as the character is about to die. That’s one of my favorite ways to do it. Other times characters are discussing old legends and the poem goes along with the legend.
@taylorclogston Oh yes, you must read The Three Musketeers. I can see why it’s a classic. The characters and story are great. I actually really enjoyed reading it.
