Ben turned his head upwards, eyes wide. “Riley?” he asked, whimpering from the pain. “Is it really you?” The young man turned, bending down on one knee beside Ben.

“I’m not your Riley, I simply look like him because that is the person you trust most,” the person said. “You see me as the person you wish to see.”

“I…are you a sort of traveler?” Ben asked weakly, black spots painting his vision.

    “No, I’m your Guardian Angel.”

Golden light whispered along the burns. The agony instantly vanished, and his skin healed somewhat. Riley, not Riley, looked over at him. “I’m sorry, that’s all I can do for now.”

The Immortal snapped her fingers, the barrier immediately rising around Ben again. “Leave my prize to me. That crystal is mine.”

The Guardian rose, golden wings of light outstretched. “You cannot take this small one’s life. He is under my protection.”

“We’ll see about that.” The Immortal snapped her fingers, black swords appearing in her hands.

The Guardian settled into a stance, a golden beam of light becoming a whip and another becoming a sword. Light cracked along the figure’s body, mirroring the forgotten sun. The Immortal drew herself to her full height, shadows hovering around her. The two opposites slammed into each other. The Guardian a flash of light, crackling with the ferocity of lighting, the Immortal raging with the darkness of thunder. Ben lay on the ground, pushing himself up on his elbow. Reaching over he grasped the piece of Ektos, wondering why the mean lady in black wanted it so badly. Why she didn’t just ask for it. Why she had wanted to burn him with it.

Steel screamed as it grated against the golden shield. The snap of the whip as it grazed past the second sword. Shadows rose like claws driving into the light before burning in its brillaince. Flashes of light battled the shadows, but each time were forced back by the utter ebony hatred.

The Guardian soared upward, the Immortal following on tendrils of shadow as she sent a score of arrows at her foe. These slammed into the shield, falling uselessly to the ground. Lightning cracked in the sky above, tearing the clouds in half. Slivers of metal shaved off as shield slid against serraded blade. The Guardian crashed against the Immortal, striving for the uper hand. Thunder crashed in the sky above them. The Immortal’s red eyes glared as she pressed the Guardian backwards, slamming her sword into the blasted shield. They strove for several moments before the Immortal was sent flying into the building. Shards of glass shattered into the silent air and fell like a tinkling rain to the ground. The Immortal raised a hand, gathering the glass to her, forming a wicked spear like object. The Guardian spread her hands, golden light warping around her at a dizzying speed. The spear was launched at her, screaming in the air as it whirled toward her. It met the light and instantly melted, falling to the ground. The Guardian raised a hand, bringing it swirling to life before forming a glass dragon. It roared to life, shimmering with the flashing lights above.

The Immortal cursed, looking around before diving. Well she couldn’t perfect it now but she still needed it. Wrenching the stone from the boy’s hands, she lifted up, glaring at the Guardian, before vanishing from sight.

The Guardian settled back onto the building beside Ben. Reaching out a hand she finished healing him. The glass dragon shook glimmering wings before settling to the rooftop. Ben’s eyes, wide from amazement, watched what he percieved to be Riley.

“Take Vrynus,” The Guardian jestered to the glass dragon. “She will take you to friends. I am here to protect you now.”

“Why did she want to burn me?” Ben turned wide-eyed to the glass dragon.

“She thinks it will make her more powerful,” the Guardian waved, a saddle appearing on Vrynus. “I will be here to make sure she never gets what she wants.”

“Thanks, Riley not Riley,” Ben grinned, sliding onto the glass dragon.

“I’ll send you home soon,” the Guardian said. “It won’t take me long to figure it out.”

Ben nodded, petting the smooth, swirled glass of Vrynus’ neck. The Guardian stepped back, fading into a blue like light before disappearing. Vrynus shook her head, before lifting chime like wings and soaring off into the night. A portal appeared in front of them. The next thing he knew. Ben was floating above the dark underbellies of the clouds and into the white magical light of the moon and stars. They decended into what seemed to be a lot of trees. Glass sparkled in the moonlight as they swept low over the leafy tops. Ben whooped, spreading his arms. This was amazing!

Vrynus flapped gently, landing on a tree.
