@ncstokes Hi! Good question. I think Lin summed up the eye part really well. First off, the eyes you drew looked great to me! Especially how you drew the iris as being partially concealed by the eyelids. Drawing faces is something Eye’ve been working on a lot this past year (and I am, by no means, an expert yet either).

In my experience, whats helped me most thus far, the best way to improve is-yes! You guessed it: practice. Practicing from reference, like Lin mentioned. It is good to practice drawing the head + face, but also, the skull. Thinking about the shapes of the skull is extremely helpful for when trying to capture the head as a 3D object.

The forehead and the jaw are hard to draw at first, but they add a great amount of depth to the face. Think about where the hairline starts. I encourage you to be mindful of these whenever you find yourself working on the head shapes.
That aside, something that has helped me in the past with anatomical woes would the the youtube channel Sycra. He definitely helped me a great deal on the subject of faces and heads.
This part isn’t a how-to, but this is the way I break the shapes down in my own art:
(To be honest, looking at references for the post makes me notice some problems in my own art all over again.. Well, back to the drawing board!)
