    This is really important to note.

    I would say, however, that some authors take it too far and make their main character so flawed that they aren’t really a good guy any more to make it realistic. Some stories do really well, but I just think their are too many of them.

    So don’t be afraid if your main character’s flaws do not make your character morally grey.

    For the MC of my mystery novel, Clem, his flaws include (so far in brainstorming- I’ll admit I’m working on him as these lessons come out) doesn’t trust his own ability to figure people out (not so good for a detective) or his people skills at all, and out of that comes not trusting others (lack of confidence in his own ability to figure out who should be trusted, so he trusts no-one). He will probably end up with more once I develop more of him.
