Feminism is an interesting topic in fiction. I personally did not find Rey to all that bad, she fit in with the male star wars peeps in character (I dislike the movies all around, but for different storytelling issues). I don’t think it is a complete trend (the books I’m currently reading all have good female POVs). And having recently seen some films from the sixties, we’ve come a long way. I’m hesitant to be too judgemental (not that where we were excuses where we are, just that we are making progress). I can’t think of anything I have read recently that the female POV was cardboard, actually.

A lot of reading went into that. Despite reading all those pages in 3 days, I would still say that the book is only okay. Definitely keeps you reading but pretty dark. Not a lot of hope, which is why I did not read all 750 in those days which was my goal. I’m part of a reading group for it, so I suppose I’ll finish, but I fell off the wagon with the speedreading.
