I’ll start off by saying I liked how you turned the dream into a whole story world. Your choice of theme is also excellent — bearing the sufferings of another is something we all want to do, but fear can drive us away.

What I want to see in a top-notch dream sequence are these three things:

A smooth, dream-like flow.
Descriptions that engage my imagination to fill in all sort of fantastic and enchanting details.
Symbolic significance.
You met all of these expectations, though not throughout the whole scene. It was best when the MC first appeared before the tavern. Loved that part. Later on though, the flow and the engagement of my imagination devolved some as the scene started to seem less dream-like and more like an alternate world.
