Why thank you!
I guess I should clarify on that whole “god of war” thing. So, the MC’s(Kija) home nation is a pagan nation. It’s strayed from the path of God, and has adopted false gods, and has developed a hate for mythical creatures(pretty much anything not human). It’s a lot like in Prince Caspian where the… oh gosh, I haven’t read it in forever, what was their name… anyhow, the humans in Prince Caspian feared and hated the “mythical” creatures like talking animals and such. They also did not believe in Aslan, but believed in some other deity that I cannot for the life of me remember.
So, yeah, there’s pagan gods in my novella. I personally think it’s a topic that should be covered more in fantasy, because hey, if people in the real world without magic or mythical creatures or elves or anything like that can think up some false god to follow, then I think people in a fantasy world can as well. Basically, the purpose of it is to show how people can and will refuse to believe in God even when he’s right in front of their eyes because they don’t want to. I’m a huge fan of writing modern-day debates and struggles into my novels, and writing contradictory themes. So it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but that’s just me. XD
*looks back* You know, I really should have mentioned that all in the original post. Oh well. 😉 Hmm, I’ve never actually read Jennifer A. Nielson. I’ll have to check her out. XD
I feel like everyone’s getting the middle-eastern thing from the setting, but the names and culture are actually kind of inspired by Japan. Which I guess is sort of similar to middle eastern… either way, they’re both cool places. I think I’d rather go to Japan though. XD
Aw, I’m glad you liked the hook and Kija so much. He’s a fun guy to write, partially because he’s not at all a “strong” character physically, which forces him to use his noggin a little more than most fantasy MC’s usually seem to do. 😉 Ah, so you say that pacing good. That’s good. My pacing always seems to lag somewhere, so I tried to keep it faster this time but was worried it was getting to fast. I’m glad you like it.
Haha. Description… yeah, that’s something I definitely lack on. I’m horrible at description, and I don’t even know why. I think it’s because I tend to focus on the character so much and their thoughts/conflicts more than the actually setting. But I’m glad you didn’t think it was terrible. XD
Anyhow, thank you so much for taking the time to review! That doc will probably be updated eventually with some new chapters and I’ll see if my old Alphas for the first four are still interested in reading some, but by all means, bookmark it and see where it goes. I can’t promise new stuff soon, but I’ll get around to it eventually. Hopefully, it’ll be published as a serial story on my blog someday.
Also, I love you avatar. Did you draw that yourself?
