@samantha-pen Glad you liked it!  I have the idea that the American Civil War and the French Revolution were exact opposites.  In the Civil War, both sides were right, and you have to decide which side you think was more right and go with that.  In the French Revolution both sides were wrong, and the question is which side was least wrong. 😛

That book (Our Country’s Founders) sounds very interesting!

@eden-anderson Okay, I get what you mean now.  And yes, I agree that at the time if a woman was unable to find a husband she was looked down upon.  You say that was beginning to change toward the nineteenth century, and while that is possible, I believe it didn’t really begin to change to any significant extent until the mid to late 1900s.

Do you think it’s safe to say that in history people got married and then learned to love each other, where as today we tend to think we have to fall in love before we can get married??

I think that yes, it was much more common for that to happen in the past than it is now.  (It’s actually a great basis for marriage, since in that case the love is intentional and you’re not as likely to “fall out of love” and want a divorce. 😛 ) Like Samantha said, romance still played a big part in courtships of the eighteen hundreds.  But then again, as she said, romance was viewed differently back then, and so what they saw as romantic might not seem so much so to us in the modern era.
