Scene cards are awesome! Basically I just jot down the things that need to happen in my story onto index cards. Sometimes it’s more of a big scene that needs a lot of filling in, sometimes I know down to the details how I want something to go, so I break scenes into smaller “scenes” for my cards…sometimes it’s somewhere in between the two, and I’ll have something broader that needs to happen, but I’ll add bullet points on the back of the index card. Then I can rearrange them all on the floor, the bed, the kitchen table, or wherever until I’m happy with the order of events. Once I do that, I usually number the cards in case they get dropped and mixed up or something tragic like that. But they’re still rearrangeable even then, so it’s a really handy plotting tool! 🙂 (And I’ve also used the punched index cards and an index card binder…it’s hard to fit a whole novel’s worth of cards into that, though.)
