Woah, lots of questions here.

For most people, there simply isn’t enough time. Tradesmen and -women have enough on their hands to care for a home and children. Pets are simply too frivolous for that lifestyle. Besides, they’re quite expensive. Only those from the Upper Quarters have the resources to consider something like a pet. And half the time they pay someone else to care for them anyway.

So you know orphans? That’s what other societies call us. But here we’re referred to as The Lost. The Program is what we call the Young Lost Program, also the YLP. Its basically what the government decided to do with all the orphans. Our society’s founding principles are hospitality and responsibility. When the Founders sat down to discuss how to make well-rounded citizens, they came up with the YLP. That’s pretty much been my life: a new home and a lot of random skills learned every year.

The marks are only for the Lost: it’s kind of what distinguishes us. Its got our last names and the date we entered the program, and then I’ve got the Third Mark, though they made that illegal a couple years after I entered.

*rolls eyes and ignores first comment* Oh man, games… I haven’t had time to play any in several years. But as far as I can remember, I always loved card games. Quick, simple, and versatile.
