((Oh wow, @happyholly_c, that sounds cool!  Have you read Ted Dekker’s 30 A.D?  They’re not my favorite books, but they’re a similar idea to yours.))

Lance turned around to face young woman.  He felt heat rise to his cheeks and nearly chewed off the tip of his tongue before forcing a smile.  “Oh I… um… thanks.”  The towel, wet with some sort of table-cleaning compound, rubbed against his uniform like rubber on rubber.  It came away dirty.  His uniform looked unchanged.  Yeah yeah it was ruined.  Fabulous.  Lance looked at the towel, up at the girl, then back a the towel.  “Thanks anyway.”  It felt like everyone in the coffee house was watching.  So much for moving to anonymity.
