So, they assigned you to your guild and you had one of three reactions. 1) YAY! RILLUMEN! (Least likely.) 2) Oh… okay sounds fun? Idk, some of my friends are over in Avensbeck… (hopefully not too common.) 3) WAIT. BRANDON’S GUILD??? *Instantly begins escape/revolution plans*
‘Fess up. Which was it? I need to know for science. (Disclaimer: Your response will affect neither my perception of you as a Guilding or your assigned position in the guild.) (Disclaimer #2: I just had to say Disclaimer #1 for strictly legal reasons, and if you choose option 3 you’re totally going to be the janitor.)
Alright! Now that that’s all covered, we can get to the fun stuff. THE WAIT IS OVER! YOU’VE JOINED A GUILD! *confettihorns* Of course, our first order of business is this:
WELCOME TO RILLUMEN. Come on in, grab some lemonade, make yourself comfortable. Oh, and take off those shoes before you get mud all over the carpet. I’m very excited to have you join us. (Fun fact: I know it may seem to you guys like you were “assigned” to this guild but the truth of the matter is that Daeus, Gabby, and I sat down and did war. “I want that one!” “No, I need them bc they’re so cool.” Maybe it sounded a little more mature than that (probably not) but the point is y’all are here bc I chose you guys and GAH I’m just so happy to have y’all around. I’ve assembled my crew for world domination and we’re about to hit the ground running. Lots of haps!
The next order of business is something about me bc I guess despite all my extroverted attempts at communication I still haven’t met everybody. So. Me. You’re “Fearless” guildmaster. Oh, actually that’s a good place to start. I have very large hands with rather long fingers, and when I do the air quotes gesture I can actually make a snapping noise, dubbed by a good friend of mine as the “Snappy Quotes”. So yeah, I can snappy quotes and obviously that makes me perfectly qualified to lead y’all into battle. Other, more interesting/relevant info about me is as follows:
· I’m an OYANer through and through. My (amazing) grandparents bought me the curriculum for my 13th birthday and I never looked back. (It distracts from the now.) OYAN helped me realize my passion for writing which has kind of been boiling over the surface since I was like two.
· I started a blog a few years ago which I dedicated to helping other first-time writers avoid the mistakes I made in my first novel: woodlandquill.com. (If you visit the Quill right now, you might notice that there’s not a lot of recent content. But stick around. There may or may not be resurrection plans.) Eventually, that blog got me a spot on the KP writing staff, and that has landed me here. All in all, I’d say that worked out pretty well.
· I come from a family of three brothers (oh, and two parents). We all live life together and they’re pretty fab. Sometimes they get annoyed at the size of my growing book collection, but for the most part we get along great. Oh, and my older brother is a math guy. Scary.
Alright, enough about me. I’m the boring one around here anyway. What about this guild? What are we going to be doing around here? How are we going to be the coolest guild? (Other than just by virtue of having y’all on our roster, of course.) And why Rillumen?
Last questions first, Lumen is light in Latin, and Rill is a super cool word for creek. So, after some slant translating Rillumen means Trickle of Light. And long story short, I think it sounds poetic. If you think there should be more meaning behind the name, here’s the thing… You’re gonna get to write it. Here sometime (IDK when) we’re going to have a Guild lore writing day and y’all get to put your creative energies together and come up with cool stuff… but I digress.
What is this guild thing? What does it mean? What are we supposed to get out of it?
Important questions, which I shall address in another topic bc this is getting long.
WELCOME TO RILLUMEN. I’m so glad you’re here.
Last thing. You may be wondering… “Okay, what do I do now?” Lucky for you, I’ve got that covered.
1) Swing over to my new questions topic and ask me things you want to know about the guilds, story embers, or my own self.
2) Drop by the critique forum and start a topic for your WIP. Post a short excerpt, and then critique someone else’s.
3) Swing through the Story Analysis topic and… analyze. If there isn’t a topic there for a book you know and love, start one! That’s kind of supposed to be a fan-girl/boy section where once we’re all done oohing and aaahing we actually dissect stories to figure out why they worked so well (or so poorly.)
4) Finally, go back to writing. Rillumen will be here tomorrow, and we don’t want it to become a distraction. Do some words. You’re a writer.
See you around!
