I really don’t think your hair (especially in the second picture) is all that bad. 🙂 If I were you, I’d focus on maybe making the strands thinner (perhaps a sharper pencil?) and using a kneaded eraser to brush through the whole thing in some parts, making some hairs appear lighter than others. Because no one’s hair is exactly the same color the whole way through, and of course light reflects off certain hairs more than others.

If you haven’t already read it, I’d suggest checking out Draw Real People by Lee Hammond. He gives a bunch of good techniques for hair and all facial features – that book has helped me a ton! 😀
