Good points, guys. I’m not against fanart (goodness knows, I’ve drawn enough of it), but I agree, we should be sober about the fact that others will think we endorse the ethics/worldview of the story behind it. I once drew some fanart for a book I eventually put down due to various content issues, and it’s always bothered me, since I’d published some of it on my blog and everyone who saw it will think I’m okay with the books.
