I think you can balance the innocence and sin nature by making it all simple. Sometimes I read stories where the 5-year-old somehow decides to murder a ton of people, or is majorly depressed. While it’s a possibility, it’s just extremely rare. Maybe they accidentally drop a cat off their deck and it dies, but they wouldn’t do it on purpose. They wanted to see its fur get spikey, and didn’t realize the height would kill it. Maybe they fake cry all the time and are considerably dramatic. They’re not depressed, they just want attention. Most of the time children don’t know better, or they’re just selfish. If they sin, it’s typically because they don’t realize the harm behind their actions. If a kid steals candy, they aren’t thinking about the money the store owner is losing. They’re just thinking about how they want candy. They have a very one-sided perspective because they haven’t had the experience adults have had. That’s just one way to think of it.
