I completely agree! I love adding “that one thing” to my characters, it just makes them pop. I’m very glad you chose to write about this because I don’t think I’ve done it enough in my writing.

One of my favorite things is when you’re reading a story, and the author can make you think of a character without saying their names. They just bring up a subtle characteristic, or smell, or article of clothing, and you know immediately what character it is. You can use “that one thing” in the same way.
