Prologue

Honestly, writing isn’t my “thing.” Never could see the use of letters and words and books. I’m more of a fighter, at least that’s what I think. So when a close friend of mine gave me this journal I was about to put it away someplace where I would never see it again. But my bossy and beautiful wife is very persistent and says that I have to write about everything that’s happened in the past year. My first reaction was “Why can’t somebody who actually enjoys wasting their time do this?” She won, since I can’t say no to her. Anyways, about this year: whoever said “Nothing could get worse than this” was obviously not around when Corenth went on a spying mission about 14 months ago. The war was raging all around and he had yet another one of his wild ideas that he knew who was behind it all. Turns out, for the first time in his life, he was right. I should have gone with him, but no, guess who had to stay and help train the fighters. Lucky me. So there I was, working with the most rebellious wannabe warriors who had ever existed in Milligard when a messenger comes running up and shouts…
