Hi! I know I don’t post here much, but I thought I’d reply since this topic always kind of annoys me. The truth is, the most annoying female characters written by male authors are the ones that adhere too much to stereotypes (of any kind!). Girls are people first, and girls second (maybe not even second…there are other things…[Read more]

One option is to give her a friend who doesn’t want to be Thunderstruck but feels like he/she could step up and do it if they had to. Try stressing the way that friend feels, and work in the main character’s feelings in a less obvious way. You can make it look…[Read more]

@sarah-narnathron Hi! I think it kind of depends on the length of the story. If there are a lot of characters, maybe give Breen another friend to interact with and help. If it’s basically just her and Josiah, I think the way it is sounds fine – she is acting mainly around his needs, but it’s because she loves him and because he is essentially her…[Read more]

Hi! I know I haven’t been on in a while, I’ve been crazy busy 🙂 But I am wondering if anyone knows of other magazines/contests I could submit stories to. There are a ton out there but most of them publish post-modernism, which I don’t write or like, so I’m looking for some that publish other types of fiction or fantasy.

@briannastorm Thanks 😀

My story has several premises, because it’s been in the works for at least five years… Essentially the idea is that there is an underground society of magical people, blending in with ordinary people. I’ve focused a lot on trying to tell a fairly passe fantasy story in a realistic style, with emphasis on the blending of…[Read more]
