thank you so much for reading and helping me with it! your comments were really helpful! Yes, there were some context things, I think, that would be confusing. but I’m glad there wasn’t anything vital that was confusing. Semiramis was hurt for a moment cause Aefflaed thought her older than she was, but it passed quickly. And yeah……[Read more]

Hey Tabitha, I’m totally behind that course of action (especially if you have an arc that changes them, I’m working on a character just like that).

I would recommend you hint at their ghost (reason for being annoying) and/or give them a quality that makes them at least slightly likable.

If a side character is annoying the main…[Read more]

Hello, Tabitha!! Fun fact: did you know your new means Gazelle and Gracious? (I was trying to copy your tag since I’m too lazy to type the extra 7 letters and I accidentally hit translate instead of copy XD)

Ok, back to the point. Before even reading your post, I, out loud, went “absolutely not!!!” To your title.
I haven’t read The Green Ember books by S.D. Smith, but one major complaint I’ve seen about them is that he refers to the rabbit characters as having hands instead of paws, and just generally uses terminology more suited to humans. So making sure to use animal terminology really helps.

This is a good question…I get so annoyed when I think a character is a human, only to find out they’re a parrot.😄

Erynne has some good ideas, but I might add a few. Depending on how your story works, you could remind readers of animal-ness by making them have different accents or cultures.

I think something I would do most would be…[Read more]

Great question! I honestly don’t have any talking animals in my story, but some things I would make sure to include are:

1. Animal characteristics. Have the dog chase his tail every once in a while, and make sure the frog catches a fly here and there. I really feel like C S Lewis forgot to do this with Aslan and I always forgot he was a…[Read more]

@tabitha This is such a good question…and one that I have puzzled over too.

My advice would be to go over what you want to teach your reader before writing the scene.

For example, in the Wingfeather Saga, Janner feels like the Maker (God) has deserted them as he watches evil destroy his world. At the climax, the Maker doesn’t directly…[Read more]

Hi Tabitha! Great question!

I can only tell you what I’ve seen myself, and what I’ve found satisfying or the reverse. Please note that it’s only my opinion, not a rule by any means.

I think you shouldn’t use miracles to completely solve the conflict, even though that is entirely possible. But if you want to use a miracle, for theme…[Read more]

God is all powerful and nothing happens outside his control… He is working in all things to carry out his purposes (providence). So I’m a little confused about what you mean by God being bound by his nature to intervene. Are you saying that he has to show up and work miracles? If so, I would contend that God is already actively…[Read more]
