Lord, bring me back.
Bring me back to Your ancient foundation
Where all things hold together.
Because I forgot it for a while;
I left on a road that tempted me with roses
And only gave me the thorns.
How did I end up this far away?
I barely even noticed it happening,
But now my legs are shaking
And they are cut and bleeding.
I was searching for love,
But it was not in You.
You are my home,
But I cannot come back myself.
I need You to carry me,
Because I can’t do it myself.
So grant me Your grace
And the forgiveness so often sung about.
Protect me
And my lovesick heart.
Lash me to Your foundation
And help me to never let go.
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
“Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Here there by Thy great help I’ve come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.”

Hey Christine, I just read this for the first time and I’m so, so glad I did. Your honesty, the truth of the Gospel woven throughout, and the way you tied “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” into this poem sets it apart as one of favorites ever. This is the prayer of my heart. Thank you for writing this <3
