I’ve heard great horned owls and heard and seen barn owls here. I think those are my favorite owl species, but burrowing owls and snowy owls are super adorable too! If you’ve never heard a barn owl, look up its call. It’s very creepy. They’re called ghost owls for good reason.
I think I like the Costa’s hummingbird best, but the ones…[Read more]

Hey @calidris!
I also like birdwatching, art, reading, LoTR, and worldbuilding when I should be writing lol. What is your favorite kind of bird? Mine are hummingbirds and owls.
I’d love any nonfic book recommendations! I started reading the Silmarillion, but never finished it. However, I did enjoy what I read; I just need to keep better track of…[Read more]

You’re one of the few poets whose free verse I actually enjoy. Keep up the great work Mr. Jackson!

Rough draft of a poem I just wrote today. Probably the rawest thing I’ve written, which isn’t saying much lol.
by B. Gauterius
I cannot say what I think
And I cannot think of what to say.
When my better judgment restricts
What my heart begs to convey–
I’ll pretend I didn’t hear you.
But I wish that I could tell you
And hear what you would…

I like it! There are a couple lines though that throw off the meter though. But otherwise, it’s great!

Thanks! I might have to check out Trello when it comes time to making scene cards.

Yes, I really love how easy to use Google Drive is–it’s a lot cleaner to me than Office. And it works better on saving my stuff than OneDrive ever does. I love using bulleted lists when brainstorming–it makes everything a lot…[Read more]

I got Scrivener for my birthday and I really love it! It helps keep everything organized without having to open dozens of folders for it.
Also, Scrivener is awesome for organizing notes and other things. I use it once in a while and would recommend!
At first I didn’t think Scrivener would be useful for me, but the…[Read more]

Thanks for the tag. July was unusually (but in a good way) busy for me, but I hope I’ll be able to get to some of these stories later this month.
@rose-colored-fancy & @devastate-lasting
I’ll try to get to your stories sometime in the next couple weeks!

I’m talking WIPs, outlines, notes, drafts, whatever. How do your organize it all? What tools do you use? Digital or paper?
(yes I started this topic because my writings are a mess and scattered all over and I need to clean and re-organize my Google Drive and OneNote)
tagging some…[Read more]

Hi there! Thanks for letting me know! I did consider Rick Riordan Presents, but I think I’ll be going to for a Christian publisher if I’m going down the traditional route. There’s a publisher called Enclave Publishing who do Christian fantasy and sci fi.
We definitely need good Christian fantasy and Enclave looks like a rea…[Read more]

@irishcelticflowercrown
Once you’re ready to pursue publication with your WIP, you should try Rick Riordan Presents, which is a publishing imprint by the guy who wrote the Percy Jackson books and it publishes books based on all different sorts of mythologies! I don’t know if they’ve done Irish or Celtic yet.

I get a lot of ideas from asking myself ‘what-if’ questions, from thinking about ways to subvert or re-do tropes (I’m currently messing with the Chosen One trope), and from history. Seriously, I can’t read my history textbook without getting a ton of ideas about characters and plotlines. I also get inspired by things from my…[Read more]

I’ve heard of motifs before, but I thought they referred more to general things that are in different stories but tend to represent the same thing, like a wise old man or a ghost appearing. Maybe I’m getting it confused with archetypes.
The Scarlet Letter has a ton of symbolism and motifs. In one of my favorite books, The…[Read more]

Your WIP sounds grand too. I love elemental magic and mythology, and relating it all in a Biblical framework is super cool. I’m trying to do something similar, but my world is completely other, even though it has some real-world parallels.

Hi @sparrowhawke !
Thank you very much! [Bows…dodges fruit…{there’s always one out there that resents my bows..😉}]
I have often wonder what fine grain of truth might have been so deeply buried in Greek and Roman mythology that later became obscured by a game of historical “telephone”. [remember that old game? One in the front of a line…[Read more]
