Aww, that’s sad. Micah sounds like a nice horse. 🙂 I hope you’re able to get a hold of Irene and his owner someday!

Haha, I wouldn’t really call myself classy. I just have preferences on horse build for equine sports, since I compete in them – the most functional build is the build that does the sport the best, and as it turns out the typical QH build isn’t the best for the sports I like. 🙂 Sport horses like WB, Sport-bred TB, or Sport-bred…[Read more]

First things first – I thought you were the OP. *facepalm* Woops lol. Most of that really long-ish rant was meant for the OP….
Anyhow, so the differentiation between “common-place” and “special ability” magic to me is just simply how it occurs in the natural world. Common place magic is something everyone can learn, with var…[Read more]

Endurance is awesome, if you don’t mind getting your butt kicked by a bunch of 60 year old ladies on their “slightly chubby” but still ridiculously fast Arabs. XD (Seriously though, those ladies are hardcore.)
Arabs are nice. I’m not really into the Egyptian Arabs, they’re too small to be of much use in the sport world(Or at…[Read more]

@katthewriter @kayla-skywriter
Thought I’d just pop in because I too like horses. XD
Btw, Kat, you might try checking out Monty Robert’s video on join up if you ever write it again! He explains it very well and I really like him as a trainer. 🙂 It’s a cool video.
Personally, I don’t really show because I can’t deal with the community of the…[Read more]

Oh, this sounds really cool! I really like how your plot sounds so far. 🙂
I’ve yet to actually start it, but I’ve been toying of writing a WW1 novel from the perspective of a German soldier. (My mother is German, so she knows a lot more about the history from the German perspective than most people. I think it would be pretty interesting to…[Read more]

@deeprun Well, the quadratic equation was originally “derived” in it’s basic form by Euclid, who lived at around 300 B.C.. Meanwhile, I can’t even begin to wrap my head around derivatives even with the wonderful tools we have(calculators, absolutely the best invention ever), in the 21st century. XD In the late 1700’s to early 1800’s, Thomas Young…[Read more]

I kind of tend to follow @deeprun‘s approach to magic – while I absolutely love a good story with a tasteful and fantastical magic system, I also love when magic doesn’t serves as the “deus ex machina” of every conflict. If ordinary old people(granted, smart people) could discover that light has velocity , or could look at a problem and derive t…[Read more]

Excellent post. 🙂 I’ve never liked Thanos, and this post made me realize why as well as giving me some new interest in developing my villains. (I’ve been stuck in a little bit of a pit with my WIP).

So, might you even consider these to be foil character traits?
I agree with @i-david that this deals mainly with the perversion of what is good – let’s take a look at it in the sense of basic economic theory. In economics, we have these magical things called incentives. Incentives are exactly what they sound like – an external or internal…[Read more]

I’m going for a sort of…. 1984/Fahrenheit 451/Inception tone. It’s hard to explain. I want the audience to have clues of what’s going on, but think the exact opposite of what’s really going on until I finally reveal what’s really going on. That’s why “real truth”(or, the genuine belief by the characters that it is real truth) is…[Read more]

Sarah Inkdragon replied to the topic Dialects! Yes or no and how much? in the forum Research and Worldbuilding 4 years, 2 months ago
I like some dialect, but if it’s going to be strong it has to fit with the setting, culture, and time period(as well as education level). Let’s take a strong Irish brogue for example – most people associate the accent/dialect of English with a spunky, red haired lass or lad. Expand that, and you also often see that people with a lower education…[Read more]

Your feedback is actually pretty good, for the purpose of this book. I won’t give many hints… but it’s essentially supposed to seem like a more generic Sci-Fi novel when it’s really not. I do want it to still sound more unique and interesting to draw people in – but then the reason for it being unique or interesting s…[Read more]

I’ve finally gotten around to making a short blurb for my Science Fiction novel tentatively named Kairos, and I’d love to hear everyone’s opinions on it.
1.) What type of story does it initially strike you as?
2.) What are your first impressions of the plot that you see in the blurb?
3.) Does it sound interesting?
4.) How’s the prose?
And n…[Read more]
