That was really good! I enjoyed it a lot, and I say that you have a knack for writing poetry. The fact that it was based on something on LotR helped too. 🙂

@jennythefaun Couldn’t tell the LoTR reference from reading it, and it would be fine anyway. I published a poem that was even more directly inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale a couple years back.
I really like the title, and great concept. My advice is to drop the rhymes. As one of my creative writing professors once said, the best poems don’t r…[Read more]

@jennythefaun Congratulations! That’s so exciting! 🙂 Just read your story. Super cool! I loved the sense of mystery and you did a great job with the imagery! *high five* Unfortunately I’ve never had a short story published… But I have written a few. For some reason my short stories end up being more lighthearted and funny than my usual writing. XD

Yeah, I can see now how that would be confusing. Thanks for the feedback! 🙂

Hi, Jenny! I like your vivid writing style and how the first lines of each stanza were parallel to each other. The way you ended it was cool too. I can’t think of any recommendations for improvement. Sorry. 🙂 It looked great to me.

Heads up. We’re moving the guilds to the archives. You’ll still be able to access old posts, but you won’t be able to make new ones.

@daeus-lamb I think the musing was a little much, but it was far more the flavor of the musing than its density that I don’t believe in someone of Matt’s age.
Like I insinuated before, we stereotypically see Matt’s kind of rumination from an old farmer. Maybe it’s funny and clever that it’s coming from a resentment-filled young adult who has a…[Read more]

I’ve honestly never thought about the pros and cons of revealing or hiding aspects of a character early on in a story. As I’m thinking about it, it seems the one thing I’d avoid is the completely mysterious character.
In Six of Crows, all the character are introduced with…[Read more]

@caseybold “rather than the author sticking too much of his personal narration in.”
What did you mean by this?
@jennythefaun “Starting the book about two steps away from the climax (at least that’s how it felt to me) also makes it challenging to keep subsequent events interesting and tense enough…we’ve got a main villain. We’ve got a main go…[Read more]

I have decided to bring in Connor O’Dan for now. Here is a character bio on Connor. I hope to actually add him by this weekend.
Connor comes from a future of our world. (The use of ‘a’ instead of ‘the’ is purposeful, there are multiple dimensions and times in the story.) He is short, 5’7, with a wiry build. He has black hair and dark brown…[Read more]
