Ok, I’ll bring in a person too!
Meet Ruhanna–you can call her Runi if she’s in a good mood. She’s a fourteen-year-old Human (less than half of the people in her world are Humans). She’s brainy and has read a lot of good scrolls, so she has a reputation for being smart (and weird). But she’s also an extrovert and can be extremely fiery,…[Read more]

@heather-drabant I finally read your story! That was fun!
I might have a bit of an idea for a crime thriller/fantasy mashup, so we’ll see where that goes!

Yay!! So sorry I missed the last one. I should be able to jump in this time! I’m not sure which mashup to pick yet…they all sound so intriguing!
@maddie-jay yours was awesome! I rlly want to read yours too @heather-drabant

@toklaham-veruzia Good thoughts. In both of my novellas so far I’ve struggled with predictability, but I’m glad you didn’t think Candle or Bread for the Hunger had that problem.

@maddiejay Thank you so much! That’s great feedback to have. It’ll definitely help me move forward!

@toklaham-veruzia Wow, thanks for all the awesome feedback! I’ll definitely keep it all in mind as I edit the story more. Did you have any ideas for how to make the ending less predictable? That seems to be a common issue in most of my stories XP.
It looks like a few tags didn’t work, so I’m tagging @maddie-jay @i-david @kr-lalonde @samberg0…[Read more]

Hi Knaplingers,
I’ve been working on a story that I think of as flash fiction. I’m not sure that’s accurate since I’ve heard that flash fiction is under a thousand words and this story is currently over 1100, but I intend to make it shorter.
Anyway, it’s set in the same world as the short story I submitted to the SE contest (though I don’t think…[Read more]

@ryowildfire I’m super late here, but I’d be interested in reading and giving feedback on your work. I have the same problem with long WIPs that no one has time to read, lol. One thing you could try is sending people just the first chapter. You’d probably get a lot of suggestions that you could apply to the rest of the book, and if you can build a…[Read more]

@emberynus-the-dragonslayer Welcome to Knaphollow! *hands you your official knapsack*
Now that my book is finished, I should have more opportunity to participate in guild stuff. I’m looking forward to the word war and also that genre mashup!

@quinn-ofallon @toklaham-veruzia Indeed! (I like the City of Ember movie too. It’s one of the few book-to-movie adaptations I heartily approve of.)

@emgc Precisely so!
Is your first one by Louisa May Alcott? I want to say it’s from Little Women but it could be from something else she wrote too…

@kayla-skywriter your second to last one is Henry and the Chalk Dragon, right?

Knaplingers, I’m pleased and quite relieved to let you know that I self-published my second novella, Grace and her Arrows! Book books are allegorical fantasy with themes of family relationships, trust in what you can’t see, loneliness, and the deceitfulness of evil. If you haven’t read the first one yet, no worries! Mercy and her Shield, my first…[Read more]

@maddie-jay all the ideas for individual guild activities sound pretty awesome! I agree with @i-david on the “worldbuilding our guild” idea…and actually a poetry/song competition could be great! @heather-drabant I second the motion for a genre-mashup activity! I’d heartily support a weekly critique, but since I’m mostly writing novellas right…[Read more]

@maddie-jay @k-b-writer @kari-karast
I honestly think cutting another five hundred words, as would be necessary, would be pretty taxing and rushed at this point. This week turned out even crazier than I expected, so some of the time I had planned on for this story didn’t get used that way. So, since we have Katherine’s really good story, that’s…[Read more]
