Folks, I have been mostly gone for the last four days with no access to internet, and will be gone again tomorrow. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my stuff/answer my questions — I will (hopefully) be able to discuss stuff more in depth with you guys on Wednesday.

OKAY, folks. Apparently, I have the esteemed position of Featured Guild Member. And not only that — I’m also the first featured guild member, so I can’t piggy-back of off previous examples because there are no previous examples. Which means I have to trailblaze this thing, WHICH MEANS…
This is the long-winded way of saying, “I have no idea…[Read more]

Go figure I have to be the first one.
I… am not prepared for this. 😂

Sarah Baran replied to the topic The awful dilemma: how to explain your story world in the forum Announcements 3 years, 7 months ago
Ugh, I wish I could offer some discussion here, but this is one of the biggest issues in my novel. Currently, I’m stumped. There are so many little details the readers need to know, but I either forget they DON’T know them and everything gets super vague, or I overcompensate and the world-building feels forced.
Hey @Kate, you’re good at this…[Read more]

Sarah Baran commented on the post, How Should Christian Authors Depict Swearing? 3 years, 7 months ago
Hmm, good thought. If it’s okay to swear in our BOOK when we’re trying to make a point, what’s the difference with swearing in REAL LIFE when we’re trying to make a point?

Not to sideline the topic here, but hey, @noahlitle @eden-anderson: An Alpha reader is someone who reads your unedited/unfinished/incredibly rough manuscript and gives you feedback. A Beta reader is someone who reads your edited, polished draft and gives you feedback for the final revisions — ie what parts seemed slow, what characters they didn’t…[Read more]

For (totally selfish) reasons I would love to have more discussions about world-building. I thought I was good at it — until I came to the shocking realization that I actually have no clue what I’m doing.

*mournful sigh* Ah, well. Whether we won or not, 51k is a heck of a lot of words. I’m doing NaNo this month, so this word war ought to be… interesting. 😖

@Eden-Anderson This is a fantastic idea, and if I were not doing nanowrimo, I would probably be more excited about it than I am. But alas, I am doing nanowrimo and cannot partake in the fun. 😉

I would actually pay actual money to see Sley start an orphanage. I would pay even more if he was forced to hire Emolas as his assistant. And Noyarc as his book keeper.
@Kate As much as I’d actually pay actual money to see the Dallan vs. Mudpit scenario, yet here we are. XD

@r-m-archer @eden-anderson @r-j-karas @rosemarylouise @Chalice Oh dear. Praying for you all — the Lord never gives a battle we’re too weak to overcome. 💜

Hey @Daeus-lamb, I won’t be around today or tomorrow, so I’m just going to dump my word count here ahead of time, if that’s okay.
It is: 6,846 words.

Oh man. Tags. They’re either incredibly useful filler material or extremely annoying schedule-violators. There is no in-between. This, however, looks fun. Despite the fact that I (unlike SOME people *passive-aggressive chuckling*) have only one book to choose characters from.

MY FAVORITE SUBJECT. Mainly because no one EVER gives characters the good relational development they deserve.
I was recently watching an old British Navy show (A&E’s Hornblower, guys, it’s amazing) and I thought it was interesting how the main character was developed. He’s a serious, practical, reticent guy by nature, but when interacting with…[Read more]

THIS ISN’T MUTINY, @DAEUS-LAMB, I PROMISE.
But, you know, “Guild Leader” or “King of New Wessex” or “Most Esteemed Master of the Guild” or “Hallowed Mentor of his Saxon Underlings” just sound so… boring. And pompous. If you’re going to be in charge, you might as well be an evil overlord. Because tyranny.…[Read more]

@Eden-Anderson Aw, thanks… Honestly, at this point I wouldn’t blame them for kicking me out (I’ve been somewhat unfaithful since the guild started 😬), but I know Daeus wouldn’t do that with out telling me first. Even if he is technically the evil overlord around here. 😉
