This year I had the idea to do a sci-fi version of Pride and Prejudice. In researching I found there is already one out there by Sybil Nelson. Now I’m excited to read that, but I can’t until mine is finished (can’t be “tainted” by her story). I guess that gives me mo…[Read more]

Sure I’ll join in. My blog is http://www.EdmundLloydFletcher.com
A word of caution: I haven’t really settled on any kind of theme so it’s really a mixed bag of “whatever”. My latest is on why people should stop calling 2020 “a bad year” and I think the post before that was on a diet.
BTW How did you all settle on a theme/topic for your websites?

Edmund Lloyd Fletcher started the topic Ugh! I hate writing first-person! in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
Hey all,
I’m considering writing in first-person for an upcoming project. The thought behind this is the main character is an “average joe” and I really want the reader to experience the story along with him. It’s a very emotional storyline and I want the reader to be right there, up front, in the rollercoaster with him.
That being said, I H…[Read more]

Edmund Lloyd Fletcher started the topic Having trouble getting my post to show up in the forum Guidelines & FAQ 4 years, 9 months ago
I’ve been trying to reply to some comments in a group (Writers Over 25) and my response will not show up!I am wondering why this might be happening?
I’ve tried clicking the “quote” button on the post I want to reply to, and I’ve also tried instead hand typing the quote in the bottom box. I’ve even tried removing quote tags entirely.
None of…[Read more] -

This last nanowrimo we had a great thread going here at storyembers. Just curious, is anybody doing camp nano?
(I completely spaced it until right this minute, so I’m still trying to decide whether to jump in, and what to tackle if I do.)

Edmund Lloyd Fletcher replied to the topic Release Timeline/Schedule in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 9 months ago
@taylorclogston thanks, I’ll check that group out!
@wolverinerm More of what tasks to plan for, plus how long each takes. Something like, “Let’s see… I need to allow 3 weeks for this thing, then after that is complete it takes another week for that thing…” The point being, I can then use that timeline to work out a release schedule on my…[Read more]

I apologize if I’ve asked this before, but I’m trying to do some planning and I’ve been trying to hat a handle on this.
Anyway, the question is: For those of you who have self-published, what do you use for your release timeline?
(I published my first book, but it wasn’t a very well-thought-out process. I’d like to do a little more c…[Read more]

Edmund Lloyd Fletcher started the topic Accountability for writing and/or indy publishing in the forum General Writing Discussions 4 years, 10 months ago
Hey all,
I’m kind of stuck right now. Assembly line has ground to a halt. I have a lot of stuff written, but none of it seems to be advancing.
I was wondering, what do you guys do for accountability when it comes to writing, sure, but mostly the actual finishing & releasing of your books?

Great timing for this forum group to start up! I’ve been working with business plans lately (here’s my first draft, fyi) and I’ve been wondering about some pieces of info that the books generally suggest for the “financial” section of that.
Now, I realize this will vary a bit by genre, but concerning Christian books in general:
1) what is the…[Read more] -

Edmund Lloyd Fletcher started the topic writer's voice – concrete definition? in the forum General Writing Discussions 5 years ago
Okay, so i already have a definite “voice” to my writing. But tat just kind of happened all by itself.
My question is what, by concrete definition, is a writers voice and what components make it up?
It seems to me that nailing down this vague concept of “voice” would be of great benefit to those searching for one.
Moreover, if we had more of…[Read more]

So are you suffering from NaNoWriMo withdrawals?
(And why does this sound like a Public Service Announcement?)Well, if so, you can feed your addiction to pain with the help of a website I just learned about.
https://www.mywriteclub.com is a free online tool with a progress graph almost eerily similar to the NaNo site. For example:

@daeus-lamb I wonder if you could help me, I’ve been having posting lately. The other day I tried to start a topic with a nanowrimo-like software tool I found and it didn’t show up. Today I tried to reply to a topic on characters and that didn’t show either.
I was wondering if, perhaps, I posted too many times in the NaNoWriMo topic(s) and…[Read more]-
Hey Edmund,
Can you check when you go to create a topic if the “topic status” (look below the textblock when you’re writing the post) is set to “pending”? That’s one explanation for why your topic wasn’t published. (by the way, I just activated that topic.)

I’m not sure why your replies aren’t going live. I might have to contact our forum hosting support about that.

In fact, here’s your llama — paid in advance, since we all know you’re going to make it even if it takes a few days extra. 🙂
