Okay, so for those of you who’ve published a book, I have questions. πŸ™‚ I’m planning to publish my first book by the end of August at the latest (hopefully!), and have been researching said things…there’s just a lot to juggle and figure out.

What’s the best way to purchase ISBNs? What size lot did you purchase? I’m thinking at least two editions, so I want multiple ISBNs for sure. Also, are copyrights necessary? They seem like just a legal backing if anything in a blue moon went wrong, but that might be a false view, IDK. πŸ™‚ Also your thoughts and experience with barcodes, etc, the whole gamut of necessary evils when publishing a book. XD I’d love to hear anything you guys know/have experienced about all of it!

@selha-chelyah That’s so exciting that you’re publishing! πŸ˜€ I’m not published yet, but I hope some of the research I’ve done can help you… About ISBNs, you can purchase them from here (in bulk, even, which saves money). And I believe they have an option to buy barcodes as well. But if you’re publishing with Amazon, I think they generate the barcode for you. As for copyrighting, what I’ve heard from other authors is that it’s not SUPER necessary, but it’s still a good safeguard to have in place just in case something happened in the future.

        I hope this helps! πŸ™‚

Thanks, Jenna! I found the place to purchase them and all, and learned about them, I just didn’t know what others’ experiences might recommend. πŸ™‚

@selah-chelyah On the novel marketing podcast, they talked about a form of book pirating where nefarious third party companies will take your book and createΒ their own print on demand version, price it lower than yours, and I guess that sometimes let them steal the buy now button on Amazon, meaning people are buying from them, not you.

Thankfully, this doesn’t happen to most authors and it’s especially unlikely to happen if you aren’t famous yet. πŸ˜›

However, if you won the lottery and this nightmare happened to you, holding a copyright is a good way to prove to Amazon that you have the rights to the book and not anyone else.

So, in my opinion, it’s not a priority, but if I start selling a lot of books, I’ll get one.

Yeah, okay. That’s kinda what I was hearing. Thanks for the help. πŸ™‚
