    ‘‘.

    Grief

    .’’

Do you not know what you

    do?

Do you not know that the

tongue is like an adder, like

    wild horses if not tamed

    and brought into subjection?

    .’’

Do you not know your words

    cut like knives? Take

    you no heed with your

    tongue? Do you not know

    the pain they cause?

    .’’

    Does your conscience not

smite you? Is there no sorrow

over the walls your words form

    to your own hurt?

    .’’

    ‘‘.

You raise your hands in church.

    You sing, pray, and say

    amen.

I am glad I have known, and

read, of other Christians. For if

you were all, I’d have to wonder

    what I was part of.

    ‘‘.

How can you curse with the

same mouth you bless God with?

    How do the tunes play

    in chord?

    ‘‘.

    You point to your works.

Your long list of the things

    you’ve done for the Saviour.

    ‘‘.

You’ve led in the church for ten years.

    You’ve given the women time.

You read your Bible, mark it,

    and pray.

Your lips have led others to Christ.

    ‘‘.

    Actions do not cover words.

    No matter what you claim.

    The daggers you draw

    etching more holes in

    hearts that already bleed.

    Their trenches dig

    deeper than your

    love.

    ‘‘.

You say you are the way you are.

You say we are the reason for your pain.

You say that we deserve it.

You ask how we dare judge.

You ask, ‘Do you not see my love?’

    No. We do not.

    ‘‘.

‘Do you not see my apology?’

Only through Christ has it been possible

    to forgive you.

    ‘‘.

    .’’

    You are two-faced.

Any can hold to their standard,

any can do kindness, and show love

    when the going is smooth.

The kids are obeying, the husband stays silent,

    silent as Adam,

    and life is good.

But, it takes a special person,

who hears the Peace that passes understanding,

    and trusts Him,

    to stay calm,

    and in control,

of the fire of the tongue.

    .’’

    ‘‘.
