“Could he be the one doing all of this?” Julian asked no one particular

Pia whirled to the guy, “My father is no wizard!” She snapped.
Kallun lost all ability to try to calm her down. He could only grab her and hold her.
    “K’Nika…?” He spoke.

    the girl watched him intently.

“Why are you back here if there is a possibility you could be recaptured?”

she shrugged, “No one saw me escape. No one believes that anyone got away. I hide here in the forest.”

“What were you doing just now?”

She hesitated. “…Mining.” She put a hand on the bright veins.

“well, sor-ry! You said you hated him; I don’t see what you’re upset about!” He fired back.

“Julian, stop!” Ellie scolded, “look K’Nika, we’re trying to get out of here. We aren’t sure how we got in here to begin with, something pushed us, and now we are just trying to make it to the river up ahead.”

Pia was near hysterics. “He hates me! He hates me!! He’s tried-“ She stopped suddenly and whirled to Kallun, “After you left! He tried to kill me!”
Kallun sat down and pulled her down with him. “Tell me what happened.” He said calmly.
“He tried to kill me.. he had a dagger and… but Weinik prevented it and told me to run…”

“And you were running when we found you…”

    “Kallun…”

    “yes?”

“He said he wouldn’t stop until me and my betrothed were dead.” She said softly.

He furrowed his brows. ”And you never told me.”

    “I couldn’t…”

While that mess was taking place on the ground, K’Nika turned to Eliana. “This tunnel leads to the River.”

(so now they have a wizard and an angry Emperor after them. Woohoo XD)

Ellie nodded and Julian turned to K’Nika, “we should be there soon then?” he asked.

Eliana drifted over to the other conversation, “you and your betrothed? Him?” she pointed to Kallun.

    Kallun’s face reddened slightly. “Possibly.”
He stood and pulled Pia up to her feet.

K’Nika nodded, “Not far it is.”

“So, your father is coming after us then?” She asked.

“Great, we should go then?” Julian said raising his voice, so the others heard him.

Pia nodded. “Weinik will try to slow him down, but my father won’t let things get in his way.”

    K’Nika nodded.
Kallun glanced at him, “We should.”

(hey sorry, my internet was all “nope” for a few days)

Everyone started going forward but continued talking. “Weinik? Is he on our side then?”

“soo… K’Nika, do you know anything about this wizard dude?” Julian asked scratching the back of his head

Pia nodded. “My brother is on our side yes.” She glanced at Eliana. “I think he’d like you…”

K’Nika shook her head. “I do not.”

She nodded, “One more on our side is always helpful.”

“We don’t know who he is or where he came from. He’s been destroying different kingdoms and killing people. We were having a party at the castle- Ellie’s a princess you know- when he just came in with a bunch of his… soldiers, I guess, they were all dressed in black, kind of shadowy looking. They started killing people with guns and knives, and the castle went up in flames. Luckily, somehow, most of it was intact after the fire went out. I was able to escape from everything.” he spoke up so Kallun would be sure to hear the next sentence, “my height gave me the advantage of being able to sneak out of there without being seen. If I was a giant, I surely would be dead by now.”

Pia smirked and said nothing more. Kallun rolled his eyes at her.

The younger girl’s brows furrowed. “I’m sorry. I will help if a can.”

“I’ve noticed something though…” Julian started “I’ve found things at each destination the wizard dude had stopped at.” He pulled the leather pack off his back and went digging through it. “Here they are.” He pulled out two pieces made of gold, both about the size of a pinecone. They were odd shapes with ragged edges except for one rounded edge. Like the pieces you get if you were to break a plate, only larger. “They don’t connect, but I wonder if there’s more pieces. I found one in the horse stables of the castle and the other I found before I found Blue Hair and Ellie.”
