Sorry about the prolonged absence.  I was down with mono for all of August, and then school started September and I’ve been pretty wrapped up in that (and getting an ADHD diagnosis.  And possibly having an eating disorder).  Yeah…been busy.
    Anyways.
I think Jericho and Brendin have had their share of time in the castle by now, and the castle’s probably bored of them just following everyone else around and not doing anything at this point…so I’m gonna swap them out.

I’m considering a few possibilities for who I’m gonna throw in:
    – Avatus Baratheon, man-at-arms and master of lobbing fireballs.  He was left abandoned on the Margrave’s doorstep with no inkling of his heritage.  Turns out he’s the grandson of the metaphysical incarnation of fire.
    – Aliya Altair, an introverted huntress.  She was similarly abandoned, this time in the village of Stagfall.  Daughter of the incarnation of freedom and creativity.
    – Tai Lurason, a folk hero long thought dead but not yet.  His life has been completely and utterly ruined by Ingor, same chap who destroyed Bren’s life.
    – Willem Teague, archer/ranger from the Hilliz Forest.  Young, quippy, fun to be around.  Doesn’t really have magic but is an absolute coffee fiend.
    – Ramseur, a powerful dragon from the desert.  Yoda but four-legged and flying.  Knows Jericho and would be fun to have a benevolent telepathic dragon to oppose Malvat…

Let me know which you prefer; it’ll probably only be one character, but if y’all are particularly fond of some I might do two.

RAMSEUR I WANT A DRAGON FIGHT THIS WOULD BE COOL!!! (Though I know neither of us want our characters to lose (and actually I’m trying to make Malvat as over-powerful as possible ’cause that’s like his goal in life anyway so I’m not sure how he would lose except for one weakness he has which I would be surprised if any of the characters have the authority to do it (no offense y’all – it’s a worldbuilding thing), so maybe in the middle of the fight we could just have Malvat go poof and head back to VaSerBo to wreak some more destruction?)

Anyway, I would vote Ramseur in case you couldn’t tell. XD (And man will Malvat be glad to get rid of Jericho and her impenetrable mind XDDDDDDDDDDDDD)

HIIIIII YOU’RE BACK!!!!!!!! *bowls over with a hug*
That’s so awful about mono, poor thing! Wait you mean an actual official diagnosis?! *haha…totally not ADHD here XDDD* Does that mean you’re being medicated or going through therapy now? They used to use benedrylline to treat ADHD and it’s a highly addictive “upper” drug that kinda overstimulated people which had an overall “evening” affect on all the stimuli cos of the low levels of dopamine in people with ADHD which is the “reward” hormone or something (I forgot…). Buuut! People with ADHD generally have high activity in the right side of the brain making them as a soft-rule more creative than the average person and they usually have a high IQ and are approximately 3 times more likely to start their own business!!! Aaaaaaaaand people with ADHD and/or Aspergers/Autistic Spectrum (which is especially common for people to have both) usually have exceptionally high levels of cognitive empathy and…hehe that was an unnecessary rant XD…it was for a character…and my grandfather…There’s also several types of ADHD and I’ll shut up now…XD (Yeah..I struggle with impulse control and eating and then trying to cut off bad eating habits entirely. all at once. which usually isn’t helpful XD)
Aw Bren and Jericho were fun! *skims over possibilities for new characters* nevermind all is forgiven these look cool!!! I would vote Teague as a fellow coffee fiend lol or Ramseur for dragon standoff totally awesome!!!!

    and getting an ADHD diagnosis.

Ooh, on that note, did you know that coffee calms people with ADHD down? Apparently the caffeine in there works oppositely when you have ADHD! *would almost drink coffee just to experience that, but coffee is too utterly disgusting to actually do that*

Yeah, it was pretty bad; I had to relearn how to swallow like a normal person afterwards (that was an experience).

Wait you mean an actual official diagnosis?!

Yes, I have severe attention-deficit type ADHD.  So severe my inattentive symptoms are almost off the scale.  It went completely undiagnosed for my entire childhood and adolescents but we finally figured it out once I got to college.
As of right now I’m unmedicated and I hope to not use any medications.  I can manage my issues fairly well on my own, and I have a network of friend that help me with my schoolwork.

I would vote Teague as a fellow coffee fiend lol or Ramseur for dragon standoff totally awesome!!!!

Willem is very fun and absolutely chugs coffee.  He’s a Ranger from the Hilliz forest and thus is a skilled acrobat and archer, and able to pull off shots while doing acrobatics.  Very fun, very friendly.
Ramseur I have less defined, but he’s not a major character in his story.  I don’t know a whole lot about him.

    @joelle-stone

Ooh, on that note, did you know that coffee calms people with ADHD down?

I did, actually.  Stimulants act as depressants on ADHD brains, which is why they’ll have hyperactive-type kids in middle school on methamphetamines.  I’ve been self-medicating with coffee or tea when I need to wind down.

*would almost drink coffee just to experience that, but coffee is too utterly disgusting to actually do that*

You just haven’t put enough sugar and cream in it yet.

Cool! Self-medications work a lot better than others, in my not very broad experience. 😛

You just haven’t put enough sugar and cream in it yet.

So they say. But my best friend forced me to try coffee she had made for me that was literally 80% creamer (like it was almost white).

    I was not impressed. 😛

@skylarynn Hey! Heard ADHD and self-medicating being talked about! I am 95% certain I have ADHD, and I can’t get diagnosed (that I’ve found out, at least) without parental consent (which I’m not sure I can get – long story), since I’m a minor. So I’m trying to figure out how to self-medicate. I’ve tried coffee and tea but they don’t work all that well. I haven’t found a tea with a high enough caffeine content that I actually like, and coffee makes my stomach upset about 75% of the time, so… XD I need something different. Do you use anything besides those to help with your symptoms? Also, do you mind if I ask exactly what things you struggle with? Cause it also may be that we have different types of ADHD and coffee may work for you because of your specific symptoms, but not me with mine. Idk. Any guidance at all?

    @skylarynn

@anne_the_noob14  I didn’t get diagnosed until after I was a minor, so I feel you.
As for what I use aside from tea and coffee, caffeinated soda usually works.  I’d caution you though because it can cause a sugar high that’ll counteract any benefit from the caffeine.

My particular symptoms are easily distracted, inattentive, quickly forgetting things, hyperfocusing on topics (once hyperfocused for 18 hours straight…), interrupting other people, being oblivious to social cues, and social intrusion (jumping in on people’s conversations).  Those are the main ones at least.  I don’t really experience any of the hyperactive symptoms.
What are your symptoms, by the way?

As of right now I’m unmedicated and I hope to not use any medications.  I can manage my issues fairly well on my own, and I have a network of friend that help me with my schoolwork.

Yeah, my mom’s unofficially diagnosed all of us for ADHD but doesn’t like the idea of medication for that so I just started studying up when I was old enough (read “when I had a character with ADHD and went through twenty different posts like ‘THIS IS NOT NORMAL!?!?!?!?!’”)

Huh, he and Alessio would probably get along great. Alessio is a fantastic shot and very agile (just don’t tell him I told on him, he’s trying so hard to blend in XDDD).

I did, actually.  Stimulants act as depressants on ADHD brains, which is why they’ll have hyperactive-type kids in middle school on methamphetamines.  I’ve been self-medicating with coffee or tea when I need to wind down.

Onnnn meth? Uhhhhhhh *why am I not surprised they’re trying to treat PTSD with LSD nowadays too, coz that’s a grand idea. The only highly addictive drug you have a researched case for medicinal use is hemp which is the female part of pot and isn’t at all addictive but everything else is on flimsy lack of scientific study or completely unethical experimentation!*
Yeah, I self-medicate on coffee and tea. Camomile is supposed to make you sleepy so I use it to wake myself up sometimes…idk if it actually works but it’s a fun theory, coffee helps with some headaches too!

Heard ADHD and self-medicating being talked about! I am 95% certain I have ADHD, and I can’t get diagnosed (that I’ve found out, at least) without parental consent (which I’m not sure I can get – long story), since I’m a minor.

Lol, totally get that! My mom made a huge case on how I’d be much safer not getting an official diagnosis coz job-discrimination and anyway meds were unnecessary and a diagnosis might make me complacent about my problems.
On a side-note I love how one person be like “I’m ADHD” and literally everybody be like “Oh me too!”

I have all those symptoms AND a LOT of hyperactivity. Like right now my chest is burning because I’m trying to sit still coz I wanna write this but my brain is screaming that I must dash across the house or do jumpingjacks or die!!!! And chatting incessantly when I’m over-stimulated/nervous, I swear the one nurse was so close to saying shut up and I just couldn’t stop asking questions and noting stuff outloud.
And hyperfocusing like: “just one more detail on this picture”–one hour later “just one more deta–oh it’s twenty minutes past lunchtime and I haven’t eaten. Just one more detail I swear!!!” (At which point I’ll sit there glued to the picture for fifteen more minutes trying to work the willpower to walk away because if I stop I won’t get it back!!!)
I’m very lucky I’m funny coz most people don’t mind my social intrusion but the social obliviousness stinks!!! I’m so tired of being accused of flirting by my mom because I literally have no clue my attitude could be taken any other way than exactly what I said!!!!!!!!!!! Fortunately, that’s gotten better mostly…I don’t think I’ve changed how I talk to people so idk how that’s not a problem anymore… Also accidentally interrupting at literally the worst time, or when I thought of something really funny while Mom was yelling at us for something. That. Was. Baaad.

Awww thanks so much!!! I’ve got two characters who need some serious development. I’d looove a brief on characters and plot I’m sooo lost!!!!

    Ok!!!
Current characters are Malvat by joelle-stone, Lupa by @millenium, Mayra by @irishcelticredflowercrown, Alessio by me. @kimlikesart has just pulled out her character Nithel and @skylarynn had Jericho and Brendin and @anne-the-noob14 is deciding on a new character to bring in (?)
A dragon Malvat is a total villain and absolutely hates my very sassy character, Alessio, but especially hated Nithel who is literally the sweetest person in the entire castle and just disappeared (Alessio is still mourning him, they became extremely close friends over the course of the castle and Alessio would gladly murder Malvat for being relieved that Nithel’s gone). Malvat can read minds and has like Life and Death fighting inside him and he can also turn partially human.
Lupa is a morally gray werewolf. She’s blunt, confident, better at hitting stuff than explaining things. She has brown hair and brown eyes as a human, gold fur gold eyes as a wolf (I think…?) She also hates sunlight and likes wolves more than people generally.
Mayra is a girl who can control pisonic energy (?) and she has C-PTSD from her abusive childhood and is currently still in an abusive relationship with an older guy in her world. She’s jaded and survivalist but very broken and just needs help and compassion. She’s also a kind of assassin or interrogator or something and hate a speech disorder from a brain injury around birth than makes her partially mute so sometimes she signs in conversation or uses her inability to speak as an intimidating silence.
Alessio is a fugitive prince who also has C-PTSD and an incredibly abusive childhood. He’s very empathetic and also has no filter and has grilled every villain who’s entered this castle. He’s very prone to valuing everyone else’s wants over his own needs and is kinda suicidal, he’s also very passionate about his beliefs. He has pyrokinesis but he doesn’t know how to control his powers and can’t consciously use his fire, but frequently catches fire when he’s experiencing strong emotions.
Everything that’s happened is…ok the Castle itself is evil and sentient and anybody can play as the castle whenever the plot slows down and right now it teleported them to a room with four cages with monsters in them and the only doors out are behind the cages. Alessio was getting way more emotionally stable spending time with Nithel who’s kinda an angel but storywise is a star who was given the chance to become human. He faded the moment they teleported there (characters fade when the writers want to change their characters). So now he’s very upset but he’s bonding with Mayra who’s determined that nobody else matters whether they live or die but she’s gonna stick with him and she’s kinda working through her survivalism and being starved for any form of genuine love. Meanwhile Malvat be like “I’m gonna steal fireboy’s powers the first chance I get and I’m gonna try and make allies with Lupa to do it” and Lupa’s trying to convince them to give her the keys to the cage she just squeezed into so she can let our the giant wolf so it can pretty much just devour everybody and she’s just gonna leave “these losers”. And Jericho and Brendin were kinda chilling together enough to talk about how this group of idiots needs a leader and to do that they need to be honest with each other and that ain’t happening and now they’re about to disappear and Alessio low-key idolized Bren coz he had fire-powers too and could use his powers pretty well and he hadn’t decided whether or not he trusted Jericho who can project emotions on others and has used that one or twice to calm Alessio when he’s having a panic attack but it makes him kinda mistrust her because he’s used to people manipulating his emotions but he wants to trust her but he doesn’t. And now they’re about to disappear so I guess that…isn’t really…relevant…
So that about sums the situation. Oh! Also, the actual narrative is on the Fantasy Chronicles etc Forum and the Character Castle forum here is just where we talk about what the heck we’re doing with this, it’s kinda confusing when you start but works more smoothly 🙂

To be a light to the world you must shine in the darkness.

Y’know, reading that Alessio likes Bren so much, I think I’ll just swap Jericho out with someone else rather than both Bren and Jericho.  And I’ve thought of another option for who to swap in:

Jango Bastion, an Eya Greycloak (of the Falmarin tribe) that serves under Bren’s uncle Joffrey.  As one of the Greycloaks he’s an extremely skilled (and powerful) archer, since the main purpose of the Greycloaks is to hunt wyverns.  He’s also a proficient dancer and uses the grace and speed he’s developed from dancing to his advantage in combat.  Also, because he’s of the Falmarin tribe, he has Force-sensory abilities.  @joelle-stone Malvat would be able to read his mind; he’s nowhere near as powerful as Jericho, and he can’t do similar feats of healing or telekinesis.

Have a scene that he’s in (though please note he’s not always a grouch):

As Ramsey and his men went to exit the village, they were obstructed by a single hooded bowman standing before the gate.  He held his longbow before him, but no arrow was yet nocked on the string.  Ramsey gestured for his men to halt.
“No further,” the bowman ordered, his voice carrying a ring of authority.
“Get out of the way, boy,” Ramsey sneered.  When the bowman did not, he turned to his archer.  “Kill him.”  The archer obeyed, firing a black-shafted arrow at the young man.
The bowman sidestepped, catching the arrow by the shaft and drawing one of his own before sending both back at the archer.  The mercenary soundlessly slumped forward and slid out of the saddle as the two arrows tore into his chest.
“I said,” the bowman snarled, “no further.”

Would you like Jango to join?

    wait, hold up. I’m confused…

What’s this about the story being somewhere else?

And I’m gonna give y’all a short summary of my characters:

Evelyn (goes by Evie) and Dominic are twins, and I’m thinking they’re gonna be 17 for the sake of the castle.

Evie: 5’6; long light brown hair, brown eyes rimmed with turquoise. She’s an elf; can grow plants, teleport, create force fields. She’s also a telepath, and technically she’s supposed to have a special connection with animals, but she hates them, so that usually doesn’t work out so well. She’s had an abusive past and come through rebelliously strong, although she sometimes struggles with PTSD. Her favorite things include knives and swords, and she’s slowly developing a love for bows and arrows as well. That’s all you get to know for now…

Dominic: 6′; shoulder-length light brown hair, brown eyes, square face; Also an elf; has a special connection with water, creates force fields, is telepathic, and loves animals (Evie will never understand). He has had the same past as Evie, struggles with intermittent paralysis for secretive reasons, and really really hates killing people. He loves peace and quiet and would do anything to not listen to Evie talking about her latest set of sharp weaponry…
